About the organisation

Teledata ICT Ltd is a Ghanaian internet service provider based in Accra. The company provides broadband internet services to residential and business customers through fixed wireless and fibre connections.

The company is expanding its technical support desk and is recruiting two engineers to help resolve customer connectivity issues.

About the role

As a Technical Support Engineer (L1), you will provide first-level technical support to customers experiencing internet connectivity problems, including slow speeds, unstable connections and complete service interruptions.

Most issues will be diagnosed and resolved remotely from the support desk. You will use network management tools to investigate connection quality, communicate with customers, guide them through troubleshooting steps and configure customer routers where necessary.

When a problem requires physical intervention, you will coordinate with field technicians and follow up until the issue is resolved. Network-wide faults will be escalated to the network team with clear technical evidence.

You will initially support residential and small-business customers. After approximately six months, strong performers may take on business and priority accounts alongside the senior support engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate broadband faults, including no internet access, slow speeds and unstable connections.
  • Monitor wireless and fibre links using network management tools.
  • Check signal readings, traffic, latency, jitter and packet loss.
  • Contact customers and guide them through troubleshooting procedures.
  • Configure and troubleshoot MikroTik, TP-Link and similar customer routers.
  • Resolve Wi-Fi issues involving access points, extenders, mesh systems, bands and channels.
  • Distinguish between customer equipment problems, last-mile connectivity faults and wider network issues.
  • Escalate faults requiring physical intervention to field technicians.
  • Coordinate with the network team when problems originate from the wider network.
  • Maintain accurate support ticket records and provide customers with clear written updates.
  • Follow up with customers to confirm that reported problems have been resolved.
  • Occasionally visit customer sites in Accra alongside a technician.

Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • At least one year of hands-on entry-level network engineering experience.
  • A relevant qualification, such as MTCNA, CCNA, CompTIA Network+, an HND or a degree in networking, telecommunications or computer engineering.
  • Practical MikroTik RouterOS experience, including Winbox, bridge and router modes, DHCP, NAT and Wi-Fi configuration.
  • Familiarity with TP-Link and other consumer routers.
  • Experience troubleshooting Wi-Fi connections in homes and small offices.
  • Previous experience handling customer technical faults through phone support and ticketing systems, preferably at an ISP, telecommunications company or technical helpdesk.
  • Ability to interpret wireless or fibre link readings, including RSSI, SNR, jitter, latency and packet loss.
  • Good spoken English and the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical customers.
  • Clear written communication skills.
  • Good documentation habits and attention to detail.

Additional skills (advantageous)

The following are useful but not mandatory:

  • Understanding of fixed wireless radio frequency (RF) fundamentals, including RSSI, SNR, noise floor, interference, line of sight and Fresnel clearance.
  • Experience with Cambium or Ubiquiti fixed wireless equipment.
  • Familiarity with Ubiquiti UFiber or Sopto GPON equipment, including OLT and ONU troubleshooting.
  • MTCRE, CAPsMAN or advanced MikroTik wireless knowledge.
  • Experience with Splynx, UISP, cnMaestro or similar ISP management tools.
  • Basic knowledge of VoIP or 3CX.

Working hours and conditions

  • Monday to Friday, on-site in Accra.
  • Saturday morning rota from 09:00 to 13:00, approximately one Saturday in three.
  • No night shifts.
  • Occasional customer visits within Accra.
  • Remote and hybrid working are not available for this position.

Benefits

The vacancy announcement does not specify salary or additional employment benefits.
