About the role
Microblink is looking for a Technical Writer / Documentation Engineer to create, improve, and maintain documentation for its software products.
The documentation will serve different audiences, including end users working with web-based products and developers integrating software development kits (SDKs) or using REST APIs.
The team follows a docs-as-code approach. Most documentation is written in Markdown or MDX, stored in Git repositories, and published through a Docusaurus website.
You will work closely with developers, product managers, support teams, and solutions engineers to understand product features and explain them clearly. You may also run products locally, test SDK integrations in sample applications, investigate code changes, and build small tools that improve documentation.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of a significant part of the company's documentation, help shape its documentation roadmap, and reduce the existing backlog.
Responsibilities
- Write and maintain technical documentation for Microblink's software products.
- Create user guides for products with web interfaces.
- Write SDK integration instructions for developers using different programming languages.
- Prepare and maintain REST API documentation.
- Work with Markdown, MDX, Git, and Docusaurus in a docs-as-code workflow.
- Review product changes and update documentation to reflect new features and releases.
- Test instructions by running products and integrating SDKs into sample applications.
- Read and investigate code written in languages such as TypeScript, Kotlin, Swift, .NET, and C++.
- Participate in product development discussions and advocate for users' needs.
- Interview developers, product managers, support engineers, and solutions engineers to gather accurate information.
- Create internal documentation and contribute to CI-related operations when needed.
- Use AI tools for research and prototyping while ensuring the final documentation remains accurate, clear, and useful.
- Take initiative to investigate unclear technical issues and find the information needed to complete documentation.
- Manage documentation projects and meet release deadlines.
Requirements
- Professional experience as a technical writer in software, or experience as a software engineer who enjoys writing documentation.
- Experience writing technical content that helps other people understand and use software.
- Strong writing and editing skills, with a focus on clarity, accuracy, and simplicity.
- Basic programming ability and the ability to read code.
- Basic working knowledge of Git and GitHub-based workflows.
- Familiarity with command-line tools, preferably Bash or another Linux/Unix shell.
- Understanding of basic command-line operations, directory navigation, permissions, and SSH.
- Ability to work independently, investigate problems, and take ownership of tasks.
- Strong time-management skills and the ability to work around product release deadlines.
- Willingness to use AI tools for research and prototyping without sacrificing documentation quality.
- Ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical colleagues.
Experience with TypeScript, Kotlin, Swift, .NET, or C++ is helpful, but direct experience with every language is not required.
A technical blog or other writing portfolio is an advantage, but it is optional.
