Full-Stack Mobile Engineer Remote Job in South Africa | R700+/Hour

About the role

A UK-based consultancy is looking for a senior Full-Stack Mobile Engineer to work remotely from South Africa on client projects.

This is a hands-on engineering role that goes beyond cross-platform mobile development. You will be responsible for delivering features across the entire technology stack, including the mobile application, native platform integrations, backend-for-frontend (BFF) services, and release pipelines.

The ideal candidate has experience shipping mobile applications to production and can confidently work across mobile frameworks, native iOS and Android code, backend services, and deployment processes.

The team also expects engineers to use AI coding agents such as Claude Code and Cursor as part of their daily development workflow, with proper code reviews and testing processes.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain cross-platform mobile applications using React Native and/or Flutter.
• Develop features across the mobile application, native platform layers, and backend services.
• Read, debug, and extend native iOS and Android code.
• Implement native integrations and communication between JavaScript or Dart and native platform code.
• Build and maintain backend-for-frontend services using Node.js and NestJS.
• Work with protobuf, Connect-RPC, or similar technologies.
• Integrate applications with PostgreSQL databases and workflow orchestration systems.
• Manage mobile release engineering, including code signing, fastlane, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Support staged rollouts and reliable production releases.
• Use AI coding agents in daily development while maintaining appropriate code review, testing, and quality controls.
• Deliver production-ready solutions for client projects.

Requirements

• Strong experience building and shipping mobile applications to production.
• Experience with React Native, TypeScript, and the New Architecture, and/or Flutter and Dart.
• Working knowledge of native iOS development using Swift or Objective-C.
• Working knowledge of native Android development using Kotlin or Java.
• Experience with Turbo Modules, platform channels, or similar native integration approaches.
• Understanding of communication between JavaScript or Dart and native mobile code.
• Backend development experience with Node.js and NestJS.
• Familiarity with protobuf, Connect-RPC, or comparable technologies.
• Experience working with PostgreSQL.
• Knowledge of workflow orchestration tools such as Temporal or similar platforms.
• Experience with fastlane, mobile code signing, CI/CD, and staged rollouts.
• Regular practical use of AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, or similar tools.
• Ability to maintain code quality through testing, reviews, and appropriate engineering controls.

Location requirement: Applicants must be able to work remotely from South Africa.
